Well hope that all shipmates on the Mar's durning "69 to 72" will be able to remember or be able to give me info on ships movements durning this time. The "V A" says that the ships log and any information is Lost/gone. I'm apealing to crewmembers for info that pertained to the weather and riding out Typhoons durning this time period. The "V A" clames the ships logs are gone and i'm trying to pin down the info. Also if anybody can remember the accident with the Ships Galley elevatior that went down into the hole below crews berthing spaces. When the "mess cook" got dragged down the shaft. If anybody can come up with date/time/Name please reply to jreemmons@gmail.com Also trying to pen down the Month/year that we lost the forklift over the side due to bad weather, and working on the flight deck. I hope that others stationed on the Mar's durning this time. Also Neno or Chief Krause if anybody knows where or how to contact them please give them my e-mail address. I know that times were crazy then and alot happened. I have a copple of cruse books but not all from this time. If anybody has one or would let me borrow one I would really really like to see them. Thanks in adavance for any help that anybody could give. Again contact me at "jreemmons@gmail.com
Hi Jim! I doubt you remember me but I do remember you! I came aboard Nov69 in Subic and you mentioned to me, one of the various first people I talked to, that I should buy extra T shirts! I ended up in E Div in the IC room showing crews and officers movies and enjoyed being duty driver in Subic.! In fact I remember once in Subic I picked alot of guys up at the main gate, you were one of them, and we had to take some guy quickly to the base hospital in the back of the pickup truck! What a ride.! It was in Yoko and I remember the guy that was hurt buy the conveyor you mentioned. Don't know his name. He was caught by the SP phones around his neck by the conveyor in the Eng living spaces.I was right there and remember the awful screams. They sent Stewart SF2 down the elevator to try and cut him out and free him from that tangled mess.It was close to noon I remember because I was just leaving to go ashore with Pat Simmons, but stayed behind. It took about 3 hours to get him out and then sent to the base hospital in Yoko. It was Dec 1969, I dont remember the date. Didn't you also do some cooking at Sambos at night in Alameda when the carriers were in? I'm currently working for the DOT (feds)here in Alameda on the old base about 2 blocks from where the Mars was piered. Each day this place takes me back in time...Hope all is well with you.
