Help is underway for all of us veterans who are dealing with private physicians and having to have the same tests down with the VA to be able to file a claim with the VA. This could very well be a miracle and it started here in Pittsburgh. You need to read this article in my local newspager the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:Local VA Worker's Bright Idea---------- Sincerely, Art Sweetland Newsletter Editor/Web-Master 63-65

Art, Ole sailors like myself are forever in your debt for the task you have taken on. I had to fight back the tears when I first discovered I could go online and read about the ship I so proudly served aboard for three years 1973 thru 1976. Is there somewhere on line where I could go to see the ships log in order to trace where the ship journeyed during the time that I was aboard ship.. Forever in your debt.. Thanks Daryl A. Smith
You're Welcome Daryl, I get great pleasure in keeping the memory of our ship alive.

HOW NICE IT WOULD BE FOR THE VETERANS HOSPITAL IN YOUR AREA IF IT HAD ONE OF THE MONOPOLY NAVY VERSION GAMES DONATED BY YOU TO THEM FROM OUR SHIPS STORE ITEMS. ---------- Sincerely, Art Sweetland Newsletter Editor/Web-Master 63-65

Hi Art, Just a quickie to let you know that the wife & I managed to get the Mars & see the ships bell last Saturday. The plaque and the brick look good but the bell could use a little 'brasso'. I've enclosed a few shot for your scrap book.Click Here to See Phil at our bell. Phil Sedlock mzlldr@comcast.net P.S. Please give my best to Chief Jones when you see him. Thanx, PJS

I had a nice visit with Brian Lewke AFS-6,Garrett Wiles AFS-4 this past Saturday 1 August 2010 in Erie PA at the Cracker Barrell Restaurant off I 90East. Our next meeting will be 26 March 2011.
Our goal is to promote friendships between fellow sailors who have served on the same type ship. By inviting them to a once a year meeting at a restaurant in a city of our choice, centrally located so that a good number on the east coast crew members could attend.
A lot of restaurants have party rooms at no charge as long as you spend more than a total set amount. Each ship Rep. there could have information on their ship's up-coming reunion. Chuck Jones has started this on the west coast. I see no reason why this could not be started in a city near you. Chuck will have more information on his meeting soon. Watch for it in his Blog.

Art, In reply to Issue Number 30 of The SupplyLine, I would rather receive it in the mail, but it appears that it would be easier for you to send it via email, so that's OK. Thank you for all that you do, and I'll be sending a donation to you soo. Sounds like the check's in the mail doesn't it? I have attended the reunions: 2005 in Jacksonville, 2006 in San Antonio and 2008 in Pittsburgh. I'm planning on attending again in 2011 in Coco Beach Florida, Just sharing. Keep up the Good work, Mel Major ---------- Sincerely, Art Sweetland Newsletter Editor/Web-Master 63-65

Dear Mate,
I served aboard the USS Neches (AO-47)---1968-69. On November 29,1968 HM2 Loyatus Mashall was Man Overboard/lost at sea. The USS Mars helped to try to locate Marshall, but to no avail. The incident was triggered by a typhoon evasion vis-a-vis Subic Bay/South China sea. Does anyone remember that fateful night? I was a RD3 in CIC manning the DRT. The Marshall incident still makes me cry. Love to hear from you or your shipmates about this ordeal. Jack Waldron, send me an email
