I was looking through my VA paper work and found a document they provided to me that states the dates the Mars was in the Vietnam combat zone while I was on board. I will try to have a search of the deck logs to find out when we entered any ports or anchorages inside Vietnam in order to qualify for exposure to agent orange. Anyone on board during these dates and making claims to the VA for Agent Orange related illness need to have those specific dates identified by deck entries to help prove eligibility.

Deck logs from the USS Pollux AKS-4 and USS Mars AFS-1?

I am processing a claim with the VA connected to Exposure to Agent Orange. The VA claims I am not eligible due to not being in country Vietnam. VA boots on the ground policy. I served on board the USS Pollux AKS-4 and the USS Mars AFS-1. Both ships entered various harbors and rivers to distribute cargo to various ships, river squadrons and shore bases in Vietnam.
The VA informed me of the specific dates I was in the combat zone of Vietnam. However the VA did not investigate if the ships entered any harbors or rivers.
I would like copies of any deck log pages which state the USS Pollux AKS-4 or the USS Mars AFS-1 entered or anchored in a harbor or river during the dates I listed below. If that research cannot be accomplished then I want a copy of all pages for the specified ship's and dates listed below. Examples of Harbors we entered are An Thoi, Cam Ranh Bay or Danang.

I just received from the National Archives and Records Administration, copies of the deck logs listed above that include all anchorages we made during those specific time periods. The dates and number of anchorages in d'An Thoi harbor, Vung Tau harbor (Saigon River), Da Nang harbor and Cam Ranh Bay are extensive. Not included are the logs for the dates when we did not anchor, which is fine with me. The folks at NARA are great for doing this service for me and I am sure other VETS.
